I love this. It’s the biological realization of what Boltzmann taught about statistical mechanics: the average tells you everything about the population, but nothing about the particle.
I’ve been working on a similar thread—looking at metabolism not as a set of fixed ranges, but as a Boltzmann-style distribution of energy and flow. Different entry point, but I think we are describing the same fundamental principle from two different sides of the aisle.
I would humbly argue with Ludwig about "everything about the population", especially human one. I am trying to get my head around how humans think that they know and understand so many things about humans, and yet, we find ourselves in this world with current levels of localised (or not very much so) chaos, don't we? :)
I can’t disagree with anything you wrote. I am not even sure if I can add anything else. Clinical trials are important but limited. People are complex and when we add, different gut bacteria ( you already said), genetics, mitochondrial efficiency ( you said), evolutional impact (you wrote -for example hunter gatherer based ancestry ie the University of Bologna finding of longevity in higher Western Hunter Gatherer genes population in Italy). So, you are right. Add in, state of inflammation, mutations in cytokines, like interferon, age , exposure to light, indoor living under LEDs, underlying disease ( Lyme disease example). Kidney disease, environmental toxins, etc.
This hits differently when you’ve had to make decisions about your own care. Cancer patients are often told to follow protocols, but not all bodies respond the same way—and not all subtypes behave the same. Many of us end up having to advocate, question and push back based on what we’re actually experiencing.
In my case, with a rare breast cancer subtype, chemo was presented as standard despite documented limited responsiveness. I had to learn from day one to educate my doctors on the specifics of my own pathology report.
Yes!! I agree with you and I think the time has come to look at individual health and promote more sovereign health education and experimentation. I think that the underlying profit incentives for many of these RTC's also has a tendency to shape results and guidelines that ultimately sacrifice greater health and well-being for monetary profit.
We treat people as statistics because it's energetically expensive to understand them as the unique individuals that they are. We should recognize that this is a problem of energy abundance as much as a problem of will.
Indeed true. Unequivocally, the perception of life experience depends on how well the body’s energy system is organized. The availability of high-quality resources is potentially one of the major predictors of health and vitality. The environment we live in is increasingly filled with metabolic disruptors such as pesticides in food, high sugar (particularly fructose) in ultra-processed products, polluted air, contaminated water, addictions, lack of proper health knowledge, and poor emotional regulation. Together, these factors contribute to toxicity, which can manifest as metabolic dysfunction. As a result, more energy is diverted toward detoxification processes, leaving less available for efficient energy production, ultimately leading toward disease (pathogenesis).
In contrast, living in an environment enriched with natural, pesticide-free food, clean air and water, and proper guidance for emotional well-being can support metabolic homeostasis and balanced energy flow. This, in turn, promotes cellular healing processes (salutogenesis), which are essential for optimal energy organization and a more fulfilling life experience.
Bravo Martin. This isn’t a solution, it’s an objection to the current so-called solution. But that’s enough. Recall the words of Pierre Abelard (12th century France): “When we doubt, we begin to search. When we search, we come to perceive the truth.”
How many observations of men are assumed to fit women , pregnant women and children. Are placebos more effective than many FDA approved drugs? How does acupuncture help and who? Energy patterns and meridians.
I am so enjoying learning more about your research. As an aside as a scientist, I am obsessed with variation and how we treat it statistically and often in interpretation how variation is noise instead of THE story.Variation is the structure of the data that we need to grasp to truly understand what the data is telling us. It’s great to hear other scientists discussing this - variation is all the interesting stuff !
Recognizing our energetic nature, and how we are individual expressions of that underlying movement, feels like the seed for a new paradigm and cultural transformation that is unfolding.

There is a deep principle at play here. Great parallel with Boltzmann, thank you!

Love this, Martin! I’ll just add playfully, “You cannot get wet from the word water. And you cannot know yourself from someone else’s average.”

I’m so glad i saw ur post restacked. This is amazing stuff. Only note is I would love to see academic sources for some of these claims!

This is gold dust, Martin. So beautifully expressed. Thank you.
Thank you, Dawn.
