Weekly Digest 14
From Mitochondrial Evolution to Huberman Lab
WEEKLY DIGEST

This week on The Science and Experience of Energy (TSEE) we shared two new articles that celebrate the origins, importance, and growing interest for mitochondria.
The first piece shares a behind-the-scenes look at my conversation with Andrew Huberman on the Huberman Lab podcast. We cover some interesting research around mitochondria, health and aging.
The second piece takes us back to our beginnings. We examine how mitochondria came to be and how they have shaped our life to make us who we are today.
With gratitude,
Martin
Talking Mitochondria on Huberman Lab
On December 4, 2025, I settled into my seat and glanced out the window, ready to start the six-hour flight from New York City to Los Angeles.
As the plane’s engines came to life, I thought about how cool this is: one of the most popular science podcasts wants to talk about mitochondria. I was delighted to accept an invitation to meet Andrew Huberman and share my enthusiasm for these fascinating organelles.
The Rise of Mitochondria
While scouring the latest literature on mitochondria, I stumbled across something that brings us back to our origins.
A new special theme issue of the journal Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B was published earlier this month. The cover was gorgeous, with a colorful illustration highlighting the role of mitochondria and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) as part of the very essence of life.
Thank you for reading The Science and Experience of Energy!
Take a moment to breathe and connect with your mitochondria.
