Interesting approach, but one aspect I wonder that help further flesh out this model is the role of homeostasis. I don't think it's controversial organisms tend to converse energy when possible and that bodily resources are only directed where needed. As an experienced athlete, I've had my own mental model that perceived effort is what's required to overcome "homeostatic resistance". And that in undertaking a long endurance event, there is a kind of bodily "energy battery" that is depleted over time. The perception of the depletion of this "battery" and the effort to overcome the body's preference to save energy can be influenced a lot by in-race carb consumption and the like. If you've ever bonked in a race, you know the body-mind connection is real.
